Elegantly simple, Vintage Gluebooks are created using only scissors, paper and glue! These lessons are filled with composition lessons and shortcuts, and help on creating your own vintage paper collections for your art.

Lesson 1: Learn what makes a collage successful, and then start with the first 2 components - the size and positioning of your elements. Get sources for distinctive vintage imagery…for free!
Lesson 2: Mix vintage color and patterns to add elements and interest. Learn layering tips that aren't distracting, yet add to the depth and detail of your pages. Find out what vintage books and ephemera will give you the most artistic flexibility, and where to find them
Lesson 3: Focus on your own personal style! Learn about visual weight and get ideas for creating your own individual materials. Get over the guilt of using real vintage materials…but still recognize when you shouldn't!

Join me in working inside your journals to make beautiful timeless spreads while learning some fun ways to continue journaling after class is over. I will even be going over how I letter in the last lesson - in hopes to encourage you to explore your own writing and unique ways to use it in your spreads.
Lesson 1: Facing the blank page
Creating a spread using some of my favourite ways to jump start journaling when faced with the blank page and not knowing what to do, utilizing a prompt promised to be fun. Great for people who are intimidated by the blank page - but also fun for longtime journalers.
Lesson 2: Secret Sub-pages
Crafting a journaling spread full or secrets and wishes, and ways to journal them while keeping them away from prying eyes.
Lesson 3: Fun with Old Paper
Mixing old paper into a journaling spread in a fun, challenging way - I will be supplying the images (but you can use your own if you wish). This segment will also have a glimpse into how I letter, helping you make more of your own writing.

Artful Altered Book Pages is designed especially for those who would like to get started or for those who want to renew their interest in altered books. The techniques described will also work well in blank journals. Lessons will include how to abandon your fear and get started, how to prepare your pages in a variety of ways and how to add ephemera, family photos and more, to personalize your pages and give them greater meaning.
Lesson one is all about trimming your book pages to give you a good foundation and stepping up to work on the blank canvas of your book. We’ll break the ice by jumping in and applying background techniques with various types of paint on a number of pages. We’ll also try a beautiful (but easy) background using pigment ink pads. When the lesson is over your book will be ready for your art and collage work and you will be ready to move on!
Lesson two walks you through adding collage materials, family photos and rubber stamping to the pages. You can work alongside with me step-by-step completing a page and I will give you lots of ideas for more pages.
Lesson three will go over gel medium transfers and how to accomplish them. We will do this both directly in your book or journal and separately to ‘tip’ in and insert into the book. Lesson three will also cover transparencies – how to add commercial transparencies and how to make and use transparencies you’ve made yourself from family photos or other images.

Making altered fabric books is so addicting & so much fun. I keep a small suitcase at my worktable to collect scraps of lace, paper & fabric from other projects. When I’m ready to create a journal I can spend hours sorting thru these bits & pieces, thinking of ways to incorporate them into little books of art.
I’ll share all kinds of ideas with you!
We’ll start by creating a theme. We’ll be finding an inspiration piece or jumping off point & turning it into a little story. I’ll show you how to select elements from both your stash & the hobby store.
Then we’ll move into layers and textures. I’ll explain how to transfer & transform vintage papers and copied images that can be sewn & bound into your journal. Also, how to how to make and use resin papers & combine them with images on muslin.
Finally, we’ll even embellish a book cover to put it all together.
